There isn’t much to bemoan most days except for the fact we are so busy we often don’t have enough leisure time to just chill.
What’s even better are days when the sky is blue and it’s actually quite chill or chilly outside. Today is one of those days.
Writing is like anything else you don’t do for long stretches at a time because it’s not the right time, or there isn’t enough time, or it’s not the right moment, or you just aren’t in the mood.
I suppose it’s a form of procrastination, but postponing something you love doing when you actually do have enough time to do it, is nothing short of a pity.
That’s why today, I’m just sitting down and seeing what flows from the ends of my fingertips. So far so good as they say.
Today I did have excuses for starting so late in the day.
First of all the sky wasn’t at the peak of its blue hues until just now. So, there would not have been a true blue sky chill time for me to put down some words.
Why write at all if you can’t just write once your can is in the chair seat?
Writing first and foremost is about expression. I love to express myself and I’m not as happy as I could be when I’m not expressing myself regularly.
Four times a month have to suffice for me. I’d love to be able to commit to more than four posts a month, but I have other obligations. More importantly, this isn’t Colorado, so the sky is not blue often enough to get a good chill session in.
But now it is…blue
I used to play and sing the blues. I’ve always written blues-like pieces in that my stories have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Sometimes there are lessons learned or shared. Other times there is just a meandering sense that portrays an author looking to avoid the corner, and if he paints himself into one, he must describe his way out.
The blues are life and life’s lessons. The blues are about relationships and how they sometimes can go bad. Sometimes only the good times are portrayed when one is feeling the blues. That is what I call my blue sky chill. Good times and blue skies and writing.
What does it take to feel adequately expressed during a blue sky chill you might ask?
The return to chill
Contributing to the bottom line of essential businesses during pandemic times recently, I made a purchase at a local liquor store. As I was paying, the cashier told me to go back home, put my feet up, and don’t put ’em down until I was good and ready.
That’s what I call chill verbiage. The problem was that there weren’t any blue skies that day.
But today there are.
So here we are back to the essential question of what purpose does writing serve in your life?
In a nutshell?
Writing is everything to me. Words do not elude me as thoughts never do. There are no coincidences and that includes the words I put down whenever I do.
I only exist to express and since I have a poker face one might not know what I’m thinking unless they read some of my prose.
Blue skies. Putting your feet up until you are good and ready to put them back down. Writing during a day filled with blue skies.
The purity of it all astounds me and the previous void before all of this began has suddenly and delightfully disappeared.
