Like most people I feel spammers are pretty rude.

Just when you think you’ve got them on the run, they rear their ugly heads again.

I understand much of the spam is generated by bots. Pretty sure bots is short for robots.

Cyber bots are the worst kind of spammers.

They are more persistent than sentient beings are by virtue of their crawling and scraping ability.

I say this because somewhere in the heart of Nigeria and other locales around the globe, there are actual humans who send spam. I understand that is how they make their living, but humans are only a fraction of the spam universe.

Bot spam is terrible mostly because it’s so ubiquitous.

You can take all the measures known to mankind, and still won’t completely eliminate bot spam.

I think bots just practice their spamming until they’ve perfected it.

One thing to try (or not) is to actually reply to a bot spammer and see how long the email exchange continues before the bot asks you for money.

It’s like a bad dream!

The bots are tireless because they are bots, and bots don’t ever get tired.

Still, I’ve heard it’s fun to toy with them occasionally.

Sometimes, if you play well in the sandbox with them, an actual live person may offer to meet up with you.

I think it might be satisfying to let the bot spammer know you’re interested in only the bots in these cases (and not the humans), with respect to meeting up.

What’s up with the bots now

I’ve enabled a second tiered layer of spam protection just prior to beginning this post.

Let’s see what happens as I finish the second half of this piece.

Best case scenario would be no bot spam coming in for the duration of this missive.

I’m not naive enough to think there won’t be at least one bot spam message that permeates my spam defense mechanisms.

But what if that is actually what occurs? Zero spam? The hell you say.

No matter. I know I would be pretty happy with my security measures if I achieved zero spam.

Again, though, I’m not holding my breath.

So far, however, so good.

Jimmy G holding the clipboard

To me, the Jimmy Garappalo development today was the biggest one of the preseason.

The Niners have come to their senses and signed him as their back up quarterback.

I understand he will be the highest paid backup QB in the league.

The talk before today was all around when he would be cut from the team as attempts to trade him have evidently proven fruitless.

Today’s one-year contract signing is a win for both the Niners and the G man.

He will be a free agent after the season.

Based on whatever occurs for him during the regular season, he will be in good position for a larger payday and contract with either the Niners or another QB-needy team next year.

All he has to do is not get hurt.

I know.

That’s a big if.

If Trey Lance proves out to be the real deal as San Francisco’s starting QB, then Jimmy G might just be able to make it through the season physically unscathed.

Again, that’s a big if, though.

Hopefully, that if will only be surpassed by the if that is if the spam bots can experience complete, and utter annihilation, can world peace be far behind?

All I can say to that thought is go Jimmy G, and go operation spam bot goodbye.

I’ll take two big ifs for 100, please, Alex.
