It’s like using a time machine when you try something old again.

In my case it was using MS Word 2008 for Mac and listening to an iTunes collection stored on an old Mac circa 1998.

Get out of town, said Neil Young.

Think I’ll get out of town, also said Neil Young.

Cause the world is turning.

How come watching shows like Homeland, specifically season four, lends itself to total distraction?

Guess it’s cause the world needs total distraction right about now.

I look to fill four blog posts a month.

Make no mistake about it.

That’s all the boss (me) expects, so why not?

Thinking about something else

Something might be on your mind.

You might be thinking of ways to cope with current events.

You might not have faith in our leadership.

Nor your own.

But that’s alright, said an old, now deceased friend of mine.

How does it feel

Dylan, yet another of my early influences asked, “How does it feel…to be on your own?”

Well, to put it in present times, “How does it feel…to be in your house all the time?”

Like a complete unknown.

Sure most of what you have read so far has indulged me and not you. And it’s not about me.

But now, we’ll return you to our regular programming and the Corona virus.

MS Word 2008 for Mac has no clue what a corona virus is.

I read somewhere recently where Bill Gates was one of the folks who sort of predicted a hyper virus, stack or some such corona hell storm that was set to sweep the nation.

But he couldn’t have provided both a prediction and a cure relative to COVID19. Consequently, how could he have been expected to build that functionality into MS Word for Mac 2008? Now, you geeks out there better not come up with a way to figure all that out and see, that back even to 1998, someone, somewhere, thought there might be an end of world scenario that included a virus with a relatively high rate of death (relative to regular, garden variety influenza) and also included the unknown that is those who are infected, yet asymptomatic, and how they affect the general population.

Enough Corona

So, people who want to influence themselves beyond the present continue to read this blog.

That must be because I find a way to connect you with the past.

Which leads us to the question of if you have like five minutes of spare time pop up where you could do anything you like, what would it be?

I would suggest you focus on your most important relationship(s).

I put the (s) at the end of “relationship” because you may have several of them you consider equally important.

I saw where the divorce rate spiked in China after the corona virus peaked.

This is sad to me.

Sure.

There are unhappy people.

There are unhappy people all over the world.

While the pursuit of happiness may be bandied about, no one is entitled to it no matter what the Constitution may have hinted at. We are simply not meant to be happy.

And as my old, deceased friend also said, that is alright.

In fact, it (happiness for those with short attention spans) probably should not be considered something we should expect out of life.

Maybe we should just try and do the best we can—whatever that is and however we can.

It probably includes first and foremost optimizing your most important relationships.

Not to mention the ones that were once important in the past and can now be again in the present and future.
