I know some people still use and have their data on CDs and DVDs, but while I am with this minority to a degree, for small pockets of time I am using this legacy solution (physical CD/DVD player/recorder) to view old documents, movies, and pictures.

I do get that we live in the digital age. However what I share in common with the number of people who are not fully current with their streaming technique is the ability to stay disconnected from the internet and specifically the cloud, in order to avoid security issues and remain safe from online scammers.

It has been amazing to think of all the paper, pencils and pens civilization has used before getting to the paperless world that is today’s Internet.

Sadly, and at least for me, using the Internet these days is mostly a get in, do what you need to do, and get out as quickly as you can type of endeavor.

And, that does not sound like fun in the least, unless you call not having to worry about falling prey to an online scam fun.

No matter what our line of work is, we can’t ever go back to the pre-broadband days (as much as we might like to). The tremendous rate of completion for tasks and high levels of productivity are what we enjoy when we make speedy transactions.

While this missive is not to suggest bliss was always the order of the day when we were cruising along on the information super highway, I do remember well in retrospect how comforting it was to not need to vet every email we receive much like today’s frenzied environment featuring gasps of, “Don’t click on that link!”

The Internet is full of nefarious junk and requires always keeping your guard up to embarrassedly avoid falling victim to the many seemingly legitimate offers and emails our inbox receives.

AI helps to a degree here, don’t get me wrong.

It’s just that the error rate for AI is still too high for me to be completely comfortable with it.

Pilates for all age groups

Fitness is not immune to the digital age and after hearing my superior other half propose I try it, I am going to sign up and attend an orientation class before fully immersing myself.

Injuries and time have slowed me down recently, but I still continue to rage against age as I can.

I feel Pilates will be a nice mix of strength and core work for me and I’m excited to get started.

I’ll keep you all posted.

Retirement and structure

After mastering the art of doing nothing for the last three months (and mostly liking it), I’ve come to the realization that for me doing nothing has an expiration date. I need the structure that regular blogging and also trying something new (see Pilates snippet above) gives a person.

Doing nothing leads to mind rot as the same adage about your body concerning “use it or lose it” also holds true for your brain power or deteriorating lack of it.

I understand a bit of mental disconnect is about par for an aging guy.

But enough is enough.

I’m going to try going back to keeping a schedule once again.

We are all worth the structure that is scheduling time to participate in activities we enjoy.
