I think we should buy stock in frozen food companies.

With inflation encroaching on double digit land, going out to eat will become less common than ever.

So will doing much spending for anything not called gasoline and rent.

It’s pretty much come down to the essentials.

With airfare prices ticking up towards the outskirts of the stratosphere, people’s willingness to travel will also begin to decline.

It’s all a sign of the times we live in.

The times are becoming increasingly difficult for the average Joe.

I’m left to entertain myself more frequently than not these days, and that’s most of the time not a bad thing.

There is a guitar with nylon strings currently staring at me and begging to be played.

This has been going on for a few years and I haven’t picked it up.

The irony in all of this is that I put the guitar in a stand some years back thinking that it always being available to my eye would inspire me to pick it up off the stand and play a tune.

And nope, it’s never happened.

Fast forward to today and I’m thinking about it.

MLB players know no limits

You know what thinking about something does? It makes you consider doing whatever it is you’re thinking about.

The Yankees – Red Sox game should have interested me today, especially considering it’s a rainy day here at home.

But with inflation being so high, all I could think was I didn’t want to watch a bunch of millionaires play a child’s game and expect me to worship them for it.

I don’t care about the problems of guys like Juan Soto who has the luxury of turning down a $440 million, 15-year contract offer.

They used to say everyone has their price.

Juan’s is evidently closer, if not more than, half a billion dollars.

How much money does someone need?

I’m sure the contract being spread out over the life of the deal, and him receiving only $29,000,000 per year on average was not good enough, because it only made him around the 20th highest salaried player in all of baseball history.

That’s right.

In all of baseball’s history.

I’ve heard and read that the Washington Nationals will look to trade him instead of offering him more money.

Good on the Nats.

It just makes me not want to watch professional sports period.

Everyone else is cutting back on everything except professional athletes.

And especially, there’s no cutting back necessary if you’re a Major League baseball (MLB) player.

Someone on an MLB team that says in their defense that they need to feed their family as the reason for rejecting an obscene amount of money should be given an immediate head examination.

I’m not saying Mr. Soto said the aforementioned; I’m only suggesting that there is not a logical reason for saying the amount of money he was offered is not enough unless their intention is to alienate fans by expressing just how greedy they are in so many words.

I’m riffing on this as there are tons and tons of people who will never sniff six figures in their lifetimes.

It’s a fact of life.

And it’s also currently indicative of the struggle of the average worker in this economy.
