I’ve heard Sparky Linux as well as the latest Beta of Deepin is worthy of my lead sentence.
But, I am not going there just yet for a variety of reasons.
First off there’s Zorin 12.
Secondly, there’s Zorin 15.
And I haven’t mentioned Windows 10 Home and Ultimate editions.
There’s also MacOS X Leopard.
And of course, there’s the one computer operating system I have not used in a while that I should, called Patriot.
Patriot used to be called Peach OS.
I’m thinking Patriot is worthy of the 4th of July weekend and hopefully, I can get back to it even before this post is finished.
Peach is also something of relevance to me, too, and not for the operating system but because my wife and her girlfriend have recently canned peaches.
And they’re good.
Not just a little good, either. A lot of good.
Getting back to Sparky
I was told by a good friend to give Sparky Linux a try.
Sparky was the fox terrier mix I had growing up.
He was, well, Sparky!
Very energetic.
Tireless.
Kinetic
So, if for no other reason than Sparky was a great dog, I need to get back to Patriot OS before today is over.
I know they’ll be a lot of updates it’ll need as it hasn’t run in a while. And that’s alright as every time it boots up you hear fireworks, which are sort of a sore point after our dogs were up most of the last two nights. But I digress.
Deep In Deepin
The good thing about weekends including the Fourth of July is that sometimes they can be long weekends preceded by short work weeks. Call me crazy but I like that.
The same friend who recommended I give Sparky Linux a go is also the same one who suggested I try the latest Deepin beta, which is supposed to, according to him, resemble Apple Mac’s user experience.
I don’t know why he thinks I like macOS or OS 11 (Big Sur to you!), but he does.
I still use a Mac occasionally because it’s the only desktop computer upstairs. It’s become my go-to machine for ordering food during the pandemic. But, I digress, again.
Deepin may be worthy of another try (I have a somewhat active install of version 15 that runs quite nicely, but it is hardly used as there’s only so much time in a day).
Some things I think…
You know it’s hot when you prefer doing laundry in the basement instead of being outside playing beach volleyball.
I just remembered one reason (besides price point to value) I don’t like Macs as much as I used to: Apple always tries to be cutting edge and eliminates something on their machines hardware-wise before everyone else does. Changing adapters, dropping support for old adapters, and eliminating CD/DVD drives come to mind.
I had to get music off an audio CD for my better half and ended up using a CD/DVD drive in an old PC to transfer the contents to a thumb drive. Sneakernet, I know, but sometimes you need old tech.
As that’s what makes the world go ’round.
