I like the relative tranquility of staycations.
They are so preferred over heavy travel destination places whereby you lose an entire day to travel.
I’ve said repeatedly and throughout the years, that far away places should not take but the blink of an eye to get to. ALL places should only take a moment to get to (now that I’m thinking of it).
This all brings me back to teleportation instead of flying or driving.
Air travel is no longer fun, convenient, and comfortable, compared to 30-something years ago.
Once they stopped serving food, the thrill of airfare was gone to me.
Sure, there weren’t gourmet meals per see, but at least you could count on it filling the void until the plane landed.
Full bellies always contribute to less travel rage. It’s hard to get angry when you just ate a couple hot dogs, and washed it all down with a cold beer.
‘Nuff said.
Weather dampens
Now that we’ve established that staycations suit me better than going somewhere, let’s move on to a component of a staycation or regular vacation that we have no control over: the weather.
Today is a perfect example of what I’m talking about.
It’s been cloudy all day today. It stopped raining this morning and my better half and I wanted to work with the landscaping edging around one of our garden areas.
The edging did not have an opportunity to bake in the sun to make it more pliable for bending and manipulating.
It’ll have to wait until tomorrow as we’re not expecting any sun to break through the remainder of the afternoon.
Laundry as fun
You know you’re getting older if you enjoy doing laundry and writing on cloudy days.
I understand that the washer and dryer (not me) are actually doing the laundry.
But, you’re still getting clothes washed and cleaned instead of sitting on a beach far away where it’s also cloudy.
Call me crazy, but needs and likes change as the years pass by.
You’ll see what I mean if you’re lucky enough to get as old as I am.
There’s no place like home
A lot of folks spent much of the pandemic on home improvement projects.
We were no different.
Making a home as comfortable as possible helps to increase your enjoyment of it tenfold.
Sure, it’s good to get away occasionally, but if you can’t, and/or you have to stay at home, why not have it be as comfortable as you can.
If your house is set up for relaxation when you need, and it’s comfortable, you’re probably better off than many who go to all inclusive resorts for their vacations.
If something sucks or isn’t to your liking, you have to live with it.
If you’re on a staycation, you already know your home’s shortcomings and have a large degree of acceptance about them.
Calling the manager
To be clear, the manager can’t always fix something you don’t like when you’re at a resort away from home.
And that, my friends is enough reason to be happy right where I am.
