We could call living in certain times the ability to live with confidence that change will always be minimal and more benevolent than not.
But no one ever refers to life this way.
Instead, most everyone is quick to suggest that today we live in uncertain times and more than ever.
However, I do not know how you quantify the “times” as uncertain when practically nothing is known for sure until it happens.
This is probably an exercise in semantics, but I thought I would start this piece out with it.
While saying we live in uncertain times is technically accurate, generally speaking, this statement’s origins are fear-influenced, if not fear-based.
Headlines featuring the words uncertain times got clicks and were used to sell newspapers when these paper relics were the dominant news medium.
Television talking heads regularly cycle uncertain times in and out of their vocabulary to capture the most viewers consistently.
It tends to make one think we enjoy being frightened.
Halloween is not coming for another month, however.
It would be nice to live in less uncertain times until Halloween, though, so we can once again revel in and celebrate uncertain times fully come to All Hallows Eve.
In the meantime, try to remain unswayed by news stories purporting our living in uncertain times.
We are people, after all, and times have been uncertain since the dawn of civilization.
What are you thinking about?
When was the last time you literally laughed out loud?
It was likely when you were thinking of a time in your life recently or in the past when something funny happened.
Sometimes you laugh out loud as a result of whatever is crossing your mind at any given time.
These are good moments, as I’m sure we all can agree upon.
Among other things, it demonstrates that we all enjoy a good laugh, especially when it comes rushing to the forefront of whatever is on our minds.
The key to making the most of living in uncertain times is the ability to channel something funny to the forefront when there is negativity.
When you’re feeling overwhelmed try thinking of a funny time in your life. You shouldn’t have to wrack your brain to find one.
If you do, that should inspire some laughter right then and there.
We really do have the option of controlling the narrative of what’s going through our heads.
I first realized this when I counted backward from 100 when I was having difficulty falling asleep at night.
I heard or read this was a technique that worked for some people.
In my experience, I would start counting and doze off somewhere when I got to eighty- or seventy-something in my backward counting.
It’s faking your racing, albeit fatigued mind out to get some rest.
Our minds and bodies, for that matter, are wonderful bio-engineering feats featuring complex systems interacting with one another. Yet, we seldom intervene in how our body regulates emotion or how we feel.
Being tired and not sleeping when you need to can lead to chronic health conditions, as the body requires rest to avoid breaking down.
If you think it’s funny to have gotten this far reading this piece, please go right ahead and laugh out loud.
No matter what else you were doing or thinking before, you are doing your body and mind good now.
And, I am not offended in the slightest.
