Lina likes to help me when I blog.

She puts her head under my arm and her nose at the base of my wrist rest while I type.

Her nose is wet so that is something I have to be aware of should she take a larger interest in the tapping of my fingers on the keys.

Before I begin to blog here for this piece she is a little restless. She looks at me and groans a few times as if to ask, “Why don’t you start blogging already?”

She would not sit with me on the couch until I actually set up to begin typing.

I call her my great helper when I’m outside scooping her and Yadi’s landmines.

Real help would be to locate the doodies before I accidentally stepped in them.

I let her take the lion’s share of the credit when the poop scooping is finally complete.

She is typically non-plussed at my recognition of her assistance as if to say, “How really was I helping, dad?”

The main way she helps me is by keeping me company.

Yadi prefers to post duties like I do blog missives and is not in the least bit interested in my poop scooping doodies or duties for that matter.

Lean-bo is a different beast altogether and all I know is that when I finally start to blog, she feels peaceful and ends up resting her snoot on my forearm as I type.

This is a strength-building typing technique for me. Again, Lina is helping me once more–this time by keeping me company as I compose another column (that is accompanied by Google Ads upon publishing).

Occasionally, Lean-bo lets up the pressure on my forearm by relocating her snoot to the side of it. She can feel my pulse quicken and so lessens the pressure by reallocating her snoot weight into the side of my wrist and forearm.

This is a Lean-bo trademark that I’ve come to love. It’s something I call her unintentional consideration.

I guess that’s because most dogs if you love and feed them over time pay you back in spades by caring for your well-being.

It’s a pretty simple thing.

There’s a saying that goes something like, “Together is the best place to be.”

Lean-bo has been with us a little over a year and with the help of her older brother is blossoming into the kind of loveable dog we all knew she would be.

Love and food are powerful, bonding and motivational.

So is spending time together.

Of all the things we can gift beast or human, the gift of our time is priceless.

Everyone’s time is valuable. Since our pets typically have a much shorter amount of it than we do, what better way to show them you care than by sitting with them and letting them feel your warmth and you theirs.

It’s reconnecting and familiarizing bonds.

It also is just something that puts a smile on your face.

Not really any other reasons to need for doing it.
